Working on ORNERY PEOPLE, I think of her more than ever, especially what little she said of the Dust Bowl years. She was so malnourished in 1934 that she almost died in childbirth and the baby did die during birth. The next year they had a sufficient supply of beans. She lived to be a few months past 92.
