"Daniel Ellsberg is dying."

I never spoke to him, but over half a century ago when he was trying hard to get out of the Brentwood Country Mart parking lot I stepped out and halted traffic so he could get away. I am sorry he is having a hard death now.

Fun of seeing Cousin Billy Crudup on Finding Your Roots

Sally Parham the heroine of a big 1930s news story--black, in her 90s. I had just talked about her to H last week. Thomas Parham II was my 8th great grandfather. I don't have a chapter on them but I mention them in chapters. It was great fun seeing a familiar picture of Asa Parham with his massive beard.

"Reckoning with a History Fraught with Violence and Injustice"

In the Washington Post on 22 November 2021 Ken Burns wrote: "Being an American means reckoning with a history fraught with violence and injustice. Ignoring that reality in favor of mythology is not only wrong but also dangerous. The dark chapters of American history have just as much to teach us, if not more, than the glorious ones, and often the two are intertwined.”  Reckoning with history is precisely what I have been doing for almost three years, starting just after the murder of George Floyd. An Okie's Racial Reckonings is my private part of the national "history fraught with violence and injustice"--but sometimes tempered with understanding and what passes with us for glory.
