Someone in North Carolina flat out asked me this week if I was a liberal. I replied that I did not always vote the straight Democratic ticket. In 1960, when I marched behind Mayor Daley and John F. Kennedy in the Loop, I cast one vote for a Socialist. Other than that . . . .
But Thad Cochran has to be one of the Virginia and North Carolina Cockerhams, Cockrams, and Cochrans, so he's a cousin of mine, surely, and his opponent needs to be kept in the state. Today in Mississippi I would have voted for a Republican for the first time. Thank goodness I did not have to.
