Jane, our first cousin a few times removed, was the daughter of John Bell and Margaret Neel Bell, so she had 2 Revolutionary War grandfathers, one of them our Thomas Bell. Now, the physical stature of George Smith, generally known as Fortenberry Smith, is of interest for what he may have passed on to our little cousins: "In personal appearance, George F. Smith was six feet one inch tall, broad and muscular, and weighed about 190 pounds, with not an ounce of fat on his frame." Now, that puts him short by Mississippi Head-Bell standards, but acceptable.
