Getting ready to tell my 1991 Bumble-Ardy story--the day after Sendak's 85th Birthday

Maurice Sendak is a player in MELVILLE BIOGRAPHY: AN INSIDE NARRATOR, collaborator to begin with and, as other wise old men fell silent and died, encourager. Like other players in the book, most notably Joyce Deveau Kennedy, he died too early to read it.

It is well known that the 2011 BUMBLE-ARDY text existed for decades. Some middle aged folks may remember the poem from Sesame Street. It was very far along in one version in 1991.

Now that I am looking ahead to being 78, I am thinking about putting on record the definitive story about how Sendak took criticism and how he thought people should couch any criticism.

It is a very tense story. Its climactic words are "GOTT IN HIMMEL!"
