East Vanport was built in 1943 and consisted of 484 housing units, mostly rowhouses. Far smaller than Vanport, East Vanport had its own fire station, laundries, a public library, community halls, and a commercial facility. But, it lacked amenities such as a movie theater and post office that Vanport had. Although the map does not show an elementary school, Hershel Parker recalls walking as a fourth grader from his East Vanport home to a neighborhood school.
